well, if you realized you've stopped seeing me wear specs out of my house recently, that's becos BOTH my specs are spoiled. =( one of them has a lost screw which is lying ard somewhere btw london and the alps, and the other one has a broken lens. i guess having both pairs of glasses unfunctionable one after another within a period of 2 weeks was an indication that it's time i make a new pair. afterall, the last time i had a new pair of specs was 5 years ago.
so today, i went to Paris Miki to make my new specs. yeah... london is well known for it's expensive price in spectacles... and yet of all places in London, i had to choose to go to Paris Miki. i've too much money eh? (noooooooo i don't!!!!!!) =( yalah, i think this specs is gonna be the most expensive thing i've ever bought in my life. urgh. it better last me for the next 10 years at least.
well... dun ask me how much it is. dun remind me of the price ya?
so, other than money, i must say their service is really good~ they patiently explained and answered my questions, and the eye test (it's not free) - is really interesting and professional. i must say that i parted with lots of my money quite happily. another good news is that the degree of my left eye is dropping further!!!!! wOohOooO... it's 50 degrees lower!~ haha... does that mean i've been using less of my eyes? cos not studying as hard mah.... not a good sign. hahaha.... but i got my short-sightedness from watching too much TV... so should be the lack of TV here instead right? heh heh~
in any case, please do tell me if my specs turned out to look good.... and DON'T tell me if it doesn't. hahaha... i need to feel better. =P

Dead-end job? Teachers make a difference! An article from The Straits Times. Specially to all the great teachers out there (only the great ones...) and to all aspiring teachers-to-be!! ^^
**********************************
I AM appalled by the comment by Everitt Road man Chan Cheng Khoon that teaching is a dead-end job ('No worries even if daughter loses teaching job, says dad'; ST, Jan 6). The remark does great injustice to all the great teachers out there.
I would like to share the following excerpt from New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman's speech at the commencement of Williams College on June 5 last year.
It goes like this: 'The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued this way: 'What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher? You know, it's true what they say about teachers: Those who can do, do, and those who can't do, teach.'
To corroborate his statement he said to another guest, 'Hey, Susan, you're a teacher. Be honest, what do you make?'
Susan, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness, replied, 'You want to know what I make? I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could and I can make kids sit through 40 minutes of study hall in absolute silence.
I can make a C-plus feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor and an A feel like a slap in the face if the student didn't do his or her very best.' Susan continued, 'I can make parents tremble when I call home or feel almost like they won the lottery when I tell them how well their child is progressing.'
Gaining speed, she went on: 'You want to know what I make? I make kids wonder, I make them question, I make them criticise, I make them apologise and mean it, I make them write and I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in maths and hide it all on their final drafts in English.'
Susan then stopped and cleared her throat. 'I make them understand that if you have the brains, then follow your heart. And if someone ever tries to judge you by what you make in money, you pay them no attention.'
Susan then paused. 'You want to know what I make?' she said. 'I make a difference. What about you?'
I hope Mr Chan will reflect on Mr Friedman's words. To all the great teachers out there, you make a difference!
i'm the eldest child| You Are Likely A Forth Born |
At your darkest moments, you feel angry. At work and school, you do best when your analyzing. When you love someone, you tend to be very giving.
In friendship, you don't take the initiative in reaching out. Your ideal jobs are: factory jobs, comedy, and dentistry. You will leave your mark on the world with your own personal philosophy. |
the analysis seemed to be quite right eh... though i wonder if factory jobs, comedy and dentistry suits me, and i'm not really that keen in leaving my mark on the world with my own personal (i.e. implied weird) philosophy
but there isn't 4 children in my family~!!! >_<

handwriting... smtgthis is taken off ruyi's blog... i am instantly attracted to it, because i have been intensively reading and writing on "Handwriting Recognition" for the past 2 weeks. So... even though this is "Handwriting Analysis" instead... i just linked the two fields together. =P haha...

The results of your analysis say:
- You plan ahead, and are interested in beauty, design, outward appearance, and symmetry.
- You are a shy, idealistic person who does not find it easy to have relationships, especially intimate ones.
- You are affectionate, passionate, expressive, and future-oriented.
- You are a talkative person, maybe even a busybody!
- You are self-confident and like to bring attention to yourself.
What does your handwriting say about YOU?
of mice and ladyhaha... it feels so good to regain my freedom!! hahaha...
well... since i've nothing to do, might as well tell you about the mice problem in my house. ever since litte edwin was caught and given to jac, we thought that's the end of the story. until...
.... we returned from ski trip. i guess 1 week of silence in the house gave them more than enough time to explore and plan a network within my house. after coming back, i never failed to hear scratches in the middle of the night. there's even this time when i went into the kitchen, switched on the lights, and saw this big, long thick-haired (which made it looked like a porcupine), ugly looking, black mother mouse running along the perimeter from where we dry our bowls, pass the sink, pass the kettles and rice cookers, and all the way to the back of the microwave where it disappeared. urgh... the thought of it now still makes me quiver in disgust. eeeeeks.
yeah... from that time onwards, i became damn scared when i heard noises in my room. cos i'm scared of MOTHER MOUSE! yucks.. so there was this particular night which i woke up at 6am cos it was too noisy, and from my bed (i dared not move away from it), i tried to figure out where the mouse was hiding. waited for a while... heard some noises from one corner of the room. while trying to take a peep... another noise was heard from another corner of the room! tWO Of TheM!? no way!!! so just like this, i was kept awake for 2 hours and in that 2 hours of fear, 4 mice came into my room from right under my main door. one of them, the smallest one, was even daring enough to crawl across my room slowly when i was sitting on my bed staring at it!! but of cos, i wasn't moving lah... cos it did run for shelter when i moved ALOT. -_-"
yah 4 of them... all siblings of little edwin i guessed, since the sizes are about the same. thank goodness Mother Mouse was not among them. i would be freaked out~! but well... i still did lah. having 4 mice running around in my room when i'm wide awake and looking at them doesn't make me any less uncomfortable.
and so after that night, and another night of catching 3 mice red-handedly for feasting on the waffle i brought back from france, i've decided to totally seal my room. i've 'studied' their movement that night and knew where their escape routes were - which is basically all the holes in my room actually. =P yeah.... totally sealed them. not permanently, but hopefully it'll take them quite a while to bite through. nonetheless, my room has been safe and peaceful since then and i can proudly say, it's now the only mouse free area in the house!!! yay~!
but today i was told that the other mousy entrance into our house was found. right in the toilet next to my room... -_-" just when i thought it's one of the safest place in the house cos there's no food there~ aaaargh! and it's a DAMN BIG HOLE!!! which is inaccessible by human... and it is so deep i cant see the bottom. probably leads to the house downstairs. grrrr.... HOW!!!!! now i dun dare to go and use the toilet/shower liao... >_< i'm scared. boohoohoo....
and the sticky paper which the landlord gave us to 'trap' the mouse is not working. we saw the bite marks on the cheese, we saw the mouse fur, the sticky paper shifted 1 metre away from the original position, but the mouse was not there. and i was saying if this continues, the mouse will become hairless as though it went for a wax. hmm... yucks. dun imagine.
yalah.... stupid mice. why must mouse exists!!! they better go away before i pour hot oil down that hole to fry them alive. HUMPH!

it's officially done!YAY!!! i've officially finished my Literature Research Project!!! The only thing left is the stapling and dropping it into the Undergraduate Office. Heh...
stupid man... i spent 4 pounds printing the report!! cos the first time i print... it came out on both side of the paper, which is not what i want. i thought it's smtg wrong with the printer... but i cant find any option in the printer to change... so i tried a second time. SAME!!! damn... so i think it might be the computer's configuration. so i looked high and low under the 'Print' option... and yeah, seems like some idiot like to print on both side of the paper. grrrr.... wasted 2 pounds on that. graaaarrr...
but oh well... seeing the final nicely printed report gives me a great sense of achievement~ it can be published as a paper oredi!! muahahaha... no lah, i wouldn't want it published man, in case pple found out that i 'copy & paste' alot of stuff and sue me for plagiarism. heehee... at last, smtg heavy off my mind. hope my supervisor will be clueless and kind enough to give me a high mark for it... cos even though i know i didn't do enough research, personally i tink i've put in alot of effort in it... i dedicated 2 full weeks to it u know!!!! yalah... so, *fingers crossed* gimme an A?? heh heh heh...
k... i tink i'm a bit too high now... pls dun mind my crazy remarks. haha!
tml... shall go and sweep the shops!!! voy a ir de compras manana!!! wheeee..... at last... can shop without any worry at the back of my mind. MSD test revision shall wait till next week! ^^

courseworkthe good ting about coursework, i.e. reports, is that you will finish it b4 the deadline somehow. even though i only started writing the very first word down 8 days ago, when some people had finished it 5 weeks ago, i'm on the way to completion!! well... i guess i can say it's 2/3 down! =) yay!
the bad ting about coursework is that you will finish it b4 the deadline, but at an enormous reduction in quality. compare what you forsee yourself presenting in the report just b4 you typed the first word, to what is going to realize in the actual report, is just like having a discount on top of the price in a closing-down sale. it was originally intended to be 35 pages. now... it's 2/3 down out of a current estimate of 25 pages. who knows if it's going to drop somemore. ah well... any ambitions in doing well always end up nowhere to be found when in face of time crisis.
and i haven't taken any advantage of the winter sale!!! my gosh... i must go shopping SOON!!!

Puffy Eyes: Causes & FixesPuffy eyes, which are often more apparent in the morning, look just awful. There are many factors which will cause the skin around the eyes to swell, especially the under-eye area. Identifying the culprits behind your puffy eyes can help you banish them successfully.
Common Culprits of Puffy Eyes:*
Water Retention. Alcohol consumption and a diet high in sodium can cause water retention and the swollen appearance around the eyes.
*
Irritation and Allergy. Your skincare products and cosmetics can cause allergic reaction and trigger inflammation, especially if they contain potentially irritating ingredients. Leaving your makeup on overnight, irritation from contact lenses or frequent exposure to smoke, air-conditioning and pollution can also make the eye area swollen.
*
Late Nights and Stress. Yes, stress can wreck havoc on the eyes too. So can lack of sufficient sleep.
Getting Rid of Puffy Eyes: - Stop Using Irritating Products. If you suspect your new eyeshadow or eye cream is the offending agent, stop using them for sometime and see if the puffiness goes away.
- Lightweight Eye Cream. Use a lightweight eye cream to counter dryness around the eyes. This can help reduce the swelling and irritation.
- Sleep Perfect. Get plenty of sleep. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated can help reduce the water retention.
- Remove Makeup Every Night. Be sure to remove all makeup cleanly before you sleep.
- Contact Lenses. Contact lenses can cause irritation and swelling of the eye. Never wear your lenses longer than what has been recommended. Rinse and clean your lenses with special lens cleaning and disinfecting solution. If you're wearing disposable lenses, change a new pair regularly, be it dailies or weeklies. Once they are past their designated time period, they should be tossed away, even though they still seem to be in good condition.
- Cold Compress. Using cool compresses or teabags on the eyes helps to reduce the swelling. Placing your eye cream in the refrigerator to apply when it turns cold works too.

Hair Color for Your SkintoneWe're always getting bored with our current hair color. But before you decide to try a new shade, identifying the hair color that suits your natural skintone is well worth the effort. A good color can bring radiance to your complexion, while a bad one can make your skin look sallow or pasty. Here's a basic hair color guide for the different Asian skintones.
In general, shades of ash brown, copper and dark auburn will work well with Asian skintone. Check your skin tone against the list below to determine which colors are for you:
- Pale White, Ivory Skin. Your skin tone can go with almost any hair color. Try colors with coppery gold undertones.
- Yellow, Sallow Skin. Rich dark shades of browns and reds, like burgundy or deep auburn will flatter this skin tone. Avoid colors with a yellow undertone as they will only highlight your sallow complexion.
- Pink Skin. Choose neutral shades like dark brown. Colors with a red or yellow undertone usually will not suit you.
- Tanned, Olive Skin. Stick to dark shades like mahogany or plum. Your tanned skin will show off highlights beautifully. Try a dark base color with copper highlight streaks.
